There's often a free musical event on in Cortona; local, English or American choirs in a church, the Palazzo Casali or the Piazza Signorelli where you can eat an ice cream from the gelateria Snoopy and take in a guitar duo and the atmosphere. We like to go to the English language films usually outside in the park near the Piazza Garibaldi, but occasionally in the wonderful opera house, the Teatro Signorelli

Any evening in Cortona is quite special; the warm air, the buzz of conversation late into the night, the smell of coffee, the swifts wheeling and tweeting overhead and a feeling that you are in an unselfconscious Italian city. A feeling too of being safe, there's always a crowd of young men and woman around café 'Route 66 and the Piazza Garibaldi, but we've never felt threatened. 

When we arrive back at the Borgo we can see the stars even the Milky Way and there are fireflies by the roadside. What a way to end a day and what a place to spend a holiday!
