Arezzo is one of Tuscany’s wealthiest cities, and a provincial capital. It is famed for its antique dealers, jewellers and goldsmiths. Its main square, Piazza Grande, is one of the most beautiful in Italy.
Piazza Grande, una delle più belle in Italia
Two great names of Renaissance art lived in Arezzo - Piero della Francesca and Giorgio Vasari. One of the outstanding sites is the famous fresco cycle by Piero della Francesca, The Legend of the True Cross, in the church of San Francesco. There is also a roman amphitheatre. The city was the setting for the Oscar-winning film, La Vita è Bella.
