From Cortona, it is easy to reach and follow what is known as the Piero della Francesca  trail

It is a journey to places where you can see many of the sublime artist's great works

Piero della Francesca (c 1416 -1492) was born and died  in Sansepolcro, east of Arezzo. There you can see his Ressurection of Christ, referred to in a famous essay by the 20th century English author, Aldous Huxley, as the Best Picture in the World

 
 

In Arezzo, at the church of San Francesco is his masterpiece, the great fresco cycle, The Legend of the True Cross

At Monterchi, about eight miles southwest of Sansepolcro, you can see another of his renowned paintings, the Madonna del Parto (the Pregnant Madonna)
